Wii, Wii…No, No

June 20, 2006

Nintendo has apparently gotten in on the joke that is the Wii. After recieving over 200,000 emails with let them know that their precious new console is being acquated to urine, it seems that it might be enough to get them to change this incredibly stupid name.

Will they? Hopefully it’s a resounding wii.

Brad Coleman is 18 years old and only graduated from high school two weeks ago but he is already behind the wheel of a racing car.

He says that he did not get behind the wheel of car until the age of 13, before that he spent lots of time with remote control cars before moving on to racing video games.

He played on Sega, Playstation, Computer and the new systems and he says all helped him get to where his is now and that video games are very helpful if you want to grow up and race in NASCAR.

The Evolution of the Video Game Console 1972-Present

June 13, 2006

When video games first premiered they were played primarily by the younger generation. As the gaming systems evolve adults can and will hog their kids games and many childless adults buy the systems for themselves. Along with lots of games.
The video game creators took notice and have brought out many games that are rated R or M, which means you need to be 17 or older to purchase these type of games. However with the internet and auction sites like Ebay, kids still get these games into their hands.
Below is the list of gaming systems starting with the first console Magnavox Odyssey down the most recent, which many people are actually waiting for and that is Playstation 3. Click on the pictures to see a larger image. Or click on the words to find out more about the gaming systems themselves. You can also click on the Generation titles.
First Generation Video Game Consoles
Magnavox Odyssey (1972-1973)
Atari PONG (1975)
Coleco Telstar (1976-1979)
APF TV Fun (1976)
Second Generation Video Game Consoles
Fairchild Channel F (1976-1977)
RCA Studio II (1976)
1292 Advanced Programmable Video System (1976)
Color TV Game(Nintendo, 1977)

Magnavox Odyssey² (1978-1984)
APF Imagination Machine (1979)
Mattel Intellivision (1980-1984)
Epoch Cassette Vision (1981)
Atari 5200 (1982-1984)

Emerson Arcadia 2001 (1982-1983)
ColecoVision (1982-1984)
Sega SG-1000 (1983)
1983 seems to be the saddest time for gamers because that is when the video game crash happened. Major players for the second generation gaming machines went bankrupt and it wasn’t until 1984 that new games and systems were available once again.
Many attributed the crash to the fact that these system cost roughly the same as another almost new electronic and that is the desktop pc. Computer companies were competing and win with major advertising campaigns. Some of the campaigns would ask the parents if they would rather spend money on a game which distracts from their child’s education, or spend it on a computer which can help get your young into college. I can see why parents chose computers.
As I look back at what were once expensive video game consoles I have to wonder if some of them really were. The ones that flopped big, looked awful even for the 80’s, but I guess we needed them to get to where we are now in gaming.

Women and Video Games

June 12, 2006

Video game makers lately seem to be noticing that some women do play video games and that it is a sort of untapped market in the sense that there are millions that do not play and so they are trying to figure out a way to get them to buy more games and gaming systems.

I for one love video games and have played them from childhood and well into adulthood. I just recently finished the fourth installment of the CSI games called CSI: 3 Dimensions of Murder and have a variety of pc games that I go to when not blogging or watching tv.

While I do enjoy video games I will probably never be the sort of gamer they are looking to snatch up their hot new games. My preferences lean towards walkthrough games such as Mario Bro., Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. I have played some driving games, and flying games but they are not what I would normally play.

I have also played a game I can’t remember the name of, in which I was an assassin and was in Asia trying to take someone out, but I just was never able to sneak the guy past the camera’s, bad guys and eyes in the sky, so I gave up. While I enjoy the movies, I have only played Resident Evil a few times and gave up when my older brother came into the room unexpectedly and I started screaming because of how on edge the game had me. The strange looks my boyfriend gave me didn’t help matters.

So unless they make more Spyro’s and Mario games they are not likely to see me renting or buying tons of video games, regardless of the large campaigns they throw out there.

Detox Clinic For Gamers

June 9, 2006

Alchohol, cigarettes, drugs, even shopping are just a few things that people become addicted to and then there is also gambling but a little known fact that many do not know or understand is that for some people video games can be just as addicting as anything else and just as hard to stop.

A clinic has opened in Amsterdam for just this reason and described that patients go through withdrawals of shaking and sweating if they so much as see a computer screen.

Strange but true. I love my video games as much the next gamer but just not that much.
