PS3 Theft! Sort of…

November 29, 2006

Two  teenager GameStop employees, Tauryn Robert Hodge and Gerald Anthony Keys, reported a “masked gunman” who stole four Playstation 3 consoles…

Except, um, there was no masked gunman and the kids just took the PS3s themselves.

Hodge and Keys were charged with suspected embezzlement, burglary, conspiracy and a charge of filing a false police report… which is way different from when I was a teenager and we’d lift free sundaes from our part-time job.

Bubble Bomb

November 25, 2006

Bubble Bomb from Binary Sun isn’t the most original game ever. You’ve got a screen full of colored bubbles, and you try to explode groups of the same color. That said, I rock at Bejeweled, at Puzzle Bobble, at the bilge puzzle on Puzzle Pirates. I even joined Neopets to play the block puzzle. If it involves lining up colors and making them explode, I’m probably playing it at work and ALT-TABing when my students come in. I think it comes from spending lots of my high school weekends playing Magical Drop.

Bubble Bomb is available as a free download, you can play 20 games before deciding to buy it or go back to Snood.

Although I thought Bubble Bomb was too similar to other puzzle games, it’s gotten me interested enough in Binary Sun games to check out Seth’s Puzzle Boxes next.

Unfortunately, for Taco Bell employees, the console will be donated to a Boys & Girls Club’s teen center, not kept in a secret breakroom. If you’re hungry for  $12,500 in Taco Bell Bucks  and you have a PS3 on your hands, you can send your name and phone number to tacobellnews@tacobell.com and hope you’re the first one!

Hot Game Girls

November 19, 2006

The November issue of Playboy has the third annual Women of Gaming feature.

[Scott] Alexander [senior editor of Playboy] says he has been trying to inject video game culture into the magazine, and he notes that Hugh Hefner has always been a gamer and he has a high-profile game room with pinball machines and what not in the game room at the mansion. The Playboy Mansion video game debuted some time ago and sold particularly well in Europe. Alexander says that the demographics for video games are a good match with the average Playboy reader. The average gamer, he notes, is 32 years old.

Of course, gamers of all ages will be buying Playboy for the insightful game-related articles and Lara Croft porn.

(Ok, I’m just bitter that I didn’t make the hot girls who game feature)
