By Meg | August 29, 2009

This is the second time I’ve done hints for a game (my first was the solutions to the wonders on MyTribe), so I should warn you that there are game spoilers in this post! If you’re just interested in the game, I have a non-spoilery review of Resorting To Danger, too. Are you sure you want to keep reading? You don’t want to try just one more time?

Don’t worry, I have the answers to the elements puzzle in the Zen room, the statues puzzle in the garden, and the icons puzzle to get into the bomb shelter.  Read on for the solutions!

Final Fantasy XII Review

By babar ali | January 5, 2009

I am a big fan of action RPG games especially those involving fantasy. Such as God of War, Max Payne, Gta, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid. One of my favorite fantasy RPG games is Final Fantasy XII. I have a great respect for this game franchise in my heart. It is no doubt one of the best RPG video games that i have ever played on the PS2. The game has a rich cast of characters which will take you away from the real world into a totally different and magical world. The game offers a very engaging storyline with alot of twists and turns which keep you glued to your seats even after you have ended the game. The combat system is strategic and very complex. You will also get to explore a number of different environments. The graphics are also very good. Overall it is one of the best games that i have played so far and i will give it 9.3 out of 10.

God Of War 2

By babar ali | January 4, 2009

I am a huge fan of action adventure games such as gta, final fantasy, resident evil, bully, metal gear solid etc. One of my favorite action adventure games on PS2 platform is God Of War. The original God of War was released a long time ago and i have played that game about 4 times and i still like it. God of War 2 is equally awesome and it continues the story of the original game. It was released by SCEA in 2007 and its ESRB rating is Mature. The game is full of intense action and entertainment. The gameplay is superb and the story is very interesting with alot of twists and turns. You will also get to solve some clever and interesting puzzles in the game. The graphics are awesome and the sound is also great. Wheather you have played the original game or no, you will definitely like this game. My advice is that you play the original game first in order to get an idea of the story. This game is recommended to everyone and i will give it 9.5 out of 10.

XBOX 360 vs PS3

By rhiozeel pomer | November 30, 2008

Last year, christmas 2007, when I was planning to buy a new game console. I just owned a Playstation and Playstation 2. I was going to Playstation 3 immediately. Because I have known it games from the start. I’ve been a big fan of Metal gear, final fantasy and god of war. Games which I know will not appear in the xbox. Another factor in my decision is the upcoming god of war 3, I have just finish god of war 1 and 2 in ps2, and I have to say that was really a good game. To think I almost bought PSP just because of god of war chain of olympus game. But all that factors went to nothing when xbox offered its online or xboxlive. I’m a competitor I love playing against someone else. I’m getting tired of playing against the computer. Whatever good the developer makes it’s AI or artificial intelligence cpu it doesn’t beat a real player.
Until now I’m addicted to playing NBA 2k9 online. My ranking is under 100 and I’m planning to go to the top. I heard PS3 can now play online but it could never outnumber the number of people online in xbox live. Never regretted my xbox 360 even for the 3 red lights or stuff. Because PS3 has the lens problem and I heard Final Fantasy will be available for xbox 360 in the future. Who knows maybe even god of war 3.

Metal Gear Solid 4 On Xbox 360?

By babar ali | October 17, 2008

Metal Gear Solid is one of the most successful video game franchise with a huge fanbase. I am a huge fan of the series. The storybased gameplay of this game is totally different. The game allows you to take the role of Snake. In the previous games of this series that i have played there was not much action but the story kept me glued to myseat. The story is full of twists an turns. This series from Konami has been a Playstation exclusive for a long time now. The latest sequel of metal gear solid is Metal Gear Solid 4: The Guns of Patriots. The game offers stunning visuals and a great story full of twists and turns. The release of the latest MGS 4 has suddenly boosted the sales of PS3. For some times there have been rumors that Konami is planning to release Metal Gear Solid 4 on Xbox 360. If this is true then it will be a great news for the Xbox 360. Some of my friends have got an Xbox 360 and when they see me playing MGS on my playstation 3 they can do nothing but, get jealous of me. I hope they will bring out MGS 4 on the Xbox 360 so that all the of the Xbox 360 users can have fun playing this stunning game.

Japanese trademark suggests a new Metal Gear is on the way.

By john terry | September 20, 2008

Though it is said that Solid Snake’s tale is finished, but that does’nt means that konami will bury the Metal Gear Solid franchi in a grave. Here is a good news for all those MGS fans out there. Siliconera picked up on an entry by Konami that’s sure to spark your curiosity. The first sign of a new Metal Gear Solid game comes from the Japanese Trademark database where Konami registered Metal Gear Existence with this boring image. It is registered to be used with video games therefore it is very likely the title of next Metal Gear Solid game.
The details about the new Metal Gear Solid are not confirmed, but there’s more than enough rampant speculation out there. One common theory would suggest that — because Solid Snake’s story has come to a close — this Metal Gear will explore the origins of the series, most likely centered around the Big Boss character. Other rumors are that it will be a more improvised version of MGS 4. I guess we will have to wait for this one. Only time will tell the truth.

Will Xbox Live and Playstation Network become new iTunes?

By Pulkit Chandna | June 6, 2008

Recently the band Motley Crue accomplished an unbelievable- and herculean – feat when their latest track Saints of Los Angeles registered more downloads on Xbox Live and PSN, as a Rock Band dlc, than iTunes. The band had deliberately released the track as a Rock Band dlc after research showed that gamers made up a sizable chunk of their fans. This might just be the precursor of things to come, though all tracks might not be more popular on online game services. This also gives a dekko into the digital world of the future when storage media will be tossed out of the window and digital downloads will reign.

Two New Nintendo DS Bundles

By Lynn Little | November 27, 2007

Just in time for the holidays, Nintendo releases two new DS bundles. One bundle features a gold colored DS and comes with Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Also, a metallic rose colored DS is available and comes with the Best Friends version of Nintendogs.

The Nintendo DS is sure to be on more than a few Christmas lists this year. With two new bundles, it gives those buying a DS a few more options.

Zelda is always popular with fans, and the gold colored case with the Zelda logo do make this a must-have fanboy item. Nintendogs is the flagship game for the DS that is very popular with kids, especially girls. Sporting a rose color with a metallic finish should be a hit with boy and girls alike.

Violent Videogames?

By Meg | February 23, 2007

In Wisconsin, three teenage boys beat and killed a homeless man, and later described the fight as “like a videogame”. I hate hearing the videogame defense, because it seems like a normal teenager should have the ability to distinguish between a computer game and actually killing someone. I played Frogger when I was little, but I don’t run out in the street and play in traffic. I played a lot of Sierra games, too, but I didn’t turn into a kleptomaniac.

Videogames, violent movies and metal music don’t make kids criminals. Bad parents make kids into criminals. Gabe from the webcomic Penny Arcade lists things that the parents might have taught their kids.

3. Don’t murder people.

Ah here’s a big one. I wonder, did the parents simply avoid the “don’t murder people” talk the way other parents might avoid the “sex” talk? Maybe one day as the father was running off to work the mother called behind him, ”Don’t forget, you promised to talk to Chris about not murdering people today!” The husband already half way out the door would holler back “Yeah yeah, I’ll do it when I get home tonight.”

He also sums up my belief that bad or neglectful parents are to blame more than pop culture.

These kids were twelve kinds of nuts and that’s a fact. Their parents either made them nuts or weren’t paying attention while they went nuts on their own. I don’t know which scenario is worse.

The stepmother of one of the boys charged (actually she’s the father’s girlfriend, but she’s lived with the father and his sons for several years) read Gabe’s rant and wrote back to Penny Arcade, describing her life with the boy.

But the reason I am writing this to you is that, after reading your news post yesterday, I felt that I needed to defend the boy’s parents. His mother and father and I did absolutely everything we could think of to try to keep this kid in line. Even the kinds of things that normal teenagers get in trouble for would have been a blessing compared to what we’ve been through with him.

The letter (which is heartbreaking, seriously, don’t read it if you’re going to Penny Arcade for a laugh) sheds some light on the kid’s life. The father’s girlfriend is 29 with a teenage stepson, the mother’s boyfriend was in jail at the time, etc. But after reading it, I don’t know if I can say “Bad parents make criminals” or just “Bad circumstances make criminals”.

The whole letter, and the Penny Arcade comments leading up to it, can be found here.

Hot Coffee

By Meg | October 6, 2005

Why all the controversy with the “Hot Coffee” easter egg on Grand Theft Auto?

It’s a game about running people over. You can beat hookers to death. You can go postal at restruants… they are even old ladies to shoot. But there’s a cheat that allows sex — with your girlfriend, no less — and now the game’s off the shelves.

Ok, I completely understand the AO rating. I even understand Wal-Mart and so forth refusing to stock it. And I think Rockstar’s excuse about “leftover content” is up there “my dog ate it”.

I just don’t understand the lawsuits parents are bringing against Rockstar, because they feel misled by the game’s labeling and packaging. It wasn’t rated Everyone or even Teen, GTA already had an M because of the hookers and, oh yeah, graphic violence. So parents bought their pre-teen sons a game about beating people to death, but didn’t want him to see boobs? What kind of morality is that? It’s ok to run people over and shoot bystanders, as long as no one has sex?

I’d expect the kids to grow up and get laid, rather than grow up and beat people to death (Unless they’re turned violent by those evil videogames and that metal music).
Hey, parents, you know there’s this thing on the computer where your son can see naked girls? It’s called the internet. Personally, I’d much rather have my teenage son watching pretend porn than shooting up pretend bystanders, but I was raised by crazy hippies!

Porn or games or the combination of the two isn’t the problem. Bad parents are the problem.

Bust Out The Lighters, Ya’ll

By Chris Bunting | April 4, 2005

What’s dorker than dork?

Video Games Live is the first major concert dedicated specifically to the celebration of video game music to tour the United States (that features music from more than one series, anyway). Their first concet is scheduled to take place on July 6th, 2005 at the Hollywood Bowl in California. Music will be included from game series such as Halo®, Metal Gear Solid®, Myst®, Sonic The Hedgehog®, HeadHunter®, and Beyond Good & Evil® among others. Tracks will be performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Maybe you know who will make a special appearance… at a geek-fest like this, anything’s possible.
