Island Paradise for Facebook, reviewed on the new blog community Share Your Expertise:
Island Paradise is a Facebook game from Meteor Games, the company who also created Little
Rock Pool and Ranch Town. Players are shipwrecked on a tiny tropical
island, and they need to find and grow crops, find and maintain animals,
cook food, and later, decorate their island home. Why I liked it: Did I mention the part where it’s on a tropical island? Sims Castaway, Lost in Blue, MyTribe for Facebook, the original MyTribe, LOST… with one notable exception (I’m looking at you, Tropical Dream. Ick.) I just love the island setting.
Cute flavortext. The description of a chicken on mouseover is
“They’re going cheap!” which almost made up for the serious flaws in
this game. Why I didn’t: FarmVille gets the ratio of playing and waiting
right. You can optionally water your friends’ gardens. Or not. Island
Paradise was constantly asking me to bother my friends for help.

Attention heathen aliens. The galaxy is not big enough for both of us.
First we tried leaflets, and you would not repent…
Then we tried hymns, and you would not repent…
Now we confront you with holiest persuader of all. Space-borne thermonuclear missiles. Prepare to die.
Cliff Harris of Positech Games (We’ve blogged about his other indie games like Democracy 2, Kudos and Kudos 2, and on Positech’s business model) has just added a new DLC pack for Gratuitous Space Battles. You’ll be fighting The Order, alien zealots who plan to wipe you out with shiny new weapons:
Radiation GunsBullet-firing weapons which deliver a radioactive payload which eats away at your ship from the inside, even if you manage to restore your shields after the initial impact. They also come with a free creepy green glow effect!Nuclear MissilesAll the fun of radiation guns, in missile form!Limpet Mines [
Tiny robotic drones which seek out fast moving enemy fighters and attach to them, slowing them down and allowing your heroic gunners to take an easy shot at those heathen alien swine.Firefly RocketsThink of them as ‘Rockets 2.0′, faster and more deadly.
You can get it here. And, yes, there’s a strong possibility that I posted this just to share “then we tried hymns, and you would not repent.”

Ok, so when I posted about LEGO Rock Band, I was pretty excited. But this is even better!
Monkey Island is back, both as a remake of the original game AND as a new series in the Monkey Island world.
LucasArts and Telltale Reveal Series of New Monkey Island Adventures Coming Soon!
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif – June 1, 2009 – LucasArts today announced that the original hilarious pirate adventure is back, with two new projects underway based on the classic Monkey Island franchise. Beginning in just a few short weeks, Telltale will premiere the Tales of Monkey Island™ game series, delivering a completely new epic storyline and swashbuckling flair that will unfold across five monthly episodes on PC and WiiWare™. The Monkey Island celebration continues later in the summer when LucasArts publishes The Secret of Monkey Island™: Special Edition, a completely re-imagined version of the first game in the series that adds updated high definition graphics, a re-mastered musical score, and full voiceover to the classic adventure game originally launched in 1990. The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will be made available on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PC.

I’m so jealous of everyone heading to E3! I’m sure I’ll be going too, once I become a famous games journalist, but for now, I’m just looking on enviously at all the new games and announcements of upcoming games.
I’m pretty excited about LEGO Rock Band, even though a lot of people are complaining that it’s slapping the LEGO name on just another Rock Band game, or slapping the Rock Band name on just another LEGO game. To me, this is a bit like complaining that mint chocolate chip ice cream has MINT and CHOCOLATE CHIPS.
Here’s the trailer, so you can see for yourself.

The object of the new Magic Toychest from Graduate Games is to tidy up your room before Mom yells at you. Trust me, it’s much more fun in videogame land. (Being a 20-year-old waitress is also more fun in videogame land.)
Players use toys to build crazy contraptions that send toys into the toychest. Each toy has a different effect, with rockets and toy guns and trains to move items, as well as alphabet blocks and dominoes for building.
If you enjoyed the recent Crayon Physics, this is fun in the same way, a puzzle game without any blood or violence. Magic Toychest is a good kid-friendly game, without defaulting to the usual match-3 system of many indie all-ages games.
I was a bit sad that the physics challenges were interacting more with blocky anti-gravity terrain rather than the background bedroom. Different toys are available on different levels, presumably to keep the challenge up, for a real sandbox experience, try the level editor. How could you not want sandbox play with trains and domino towers?
One cool feature is the ability to skip a frustrating level, which was especially nice for me because I found some levels quite difficult and others quite simple. The toys were so cute that even redoing the difficult parts wasn’t too frustrating.
Definitely a fun kids’ game, and adult might find themselves playing as well!

Slayer of Dragon RPG is a stripped-down system for tabletop storytelling by Grant Gigee. The focus is on fast, simple combat, with room -but not hard rules – for roleplaying and story. “The core of the game,” Gigee says, “is like rock-paper-scissors in the sense that there are many ways to achieve victory but no one ‘right’ way.”
Gigee’s game system attempts to bring tabletop roleplaying away from the dice rolling and swords of +1 towards playing pretend. The rules exist to keep group storytelling from devolving into playground claims of who killed who. If you enjoy creating stories and playing pretend more than rolling dice, this is a game for you.
Inspiration for Slayer of Dragon comes from across the globe. Gigee was influenced by the simple rule systems of European strategy games, and he tries to bring that clarity and accessibility to a tabletop RPG system. His other influence is a love of martial arts movies, from Kurosawa classics to the flimsiest B-grade films.
Instead of leveling and learning new skills, Slayer characters have “revelations” in which they tell the other players what their character has always known but never mentioned before. This method of leveling, like many other elements of Slayer, is a nod to Gigee’s love of martial arts movies.
“Slayer of Dragon RPG is designed to recreate kung-fu movies,” designer Gigee says, “So I needed it to be fast: fast to make characters, fast to get into the action, and fast to move from scene to scene. A complete session can be played in two hours, only a bit longer than the typical film takes to watch.”
The Slayer RPG rules are available on Gigee’s website, StandardDeviation.cx

I started playing MyTribe a while ago, and I think I’ve finally unlocked all the MyTribe mysteries!
This is the first time I’ve given any hints on ThumbGods, so this is your warning! Spoilers ahead! If you want to solve the mysteries on your own, don’t keep reading! How about a nice article on the World of Warcraft font instead? Or the history of the console? Or what I thought about MyTribe — the no-spoilers version? Seriously, stop reading now!
Still here? Ok, here are instructions on how to solve the mysteries on MyTribe.
These are for the Grubby Games single-player game! Go here for solutions to the mysteries on Facebook’s MyTribe, or here for advice on building the Great Ark and going to the second MyTribe Island.
I knew the big red rock was iron, especially when my tribespeople who were scientists started to drop broad hints. You need someone who is legendary in science and in construction to access this. Once you do, you get a bonus on work that uses tools.
Like the iron-red rock, I knew what the fish skeleton rock was but my tribespeople didn’t. A legendary rock-gatherer can break it open, and then a legendary scientist can examine it. Tada! Now your tribe has 50,000 more science points!
For a star-carved rock, use Stardust on a tribesperson, and then drop that person on the rock. Quickly add 3 more stardusts… don’t worry that it cost 4 Stardusts to solve the mystery, because now Stardust will drop more frequently on the island. For the moon-carved rock, do exactly the same thing with Moondust for more frequent Moondust drops.
A legendary scientist can tell that this ancient fountain is special, maybe even the Fountain of Youth! Once she does, you can use fountain water in potions.
For the strange bush, first make a fertilizer potion from guano, sea water and stardust and pour it on the strange bush. Then have a legendary farmer look at it. Ta-da! Now you have a special berry bush, and you can use these berries in potions.
Only someone with 100 strength can move that weird old stump. Tribespeople with high strength tell you there’s something special under it, but you need to get someone to max physical strength to move it. Once they’ve moved it, it needs special care. Make a potion of fish, sea water and stardust to make it rain (or just hope). Your muscle man may need to tend it again, and then your old wither stump grows into a strong iron wood tree.
Are you looking for the solutions to the mysteries for MyTribe on Facebook?

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories was the first game in the all time famous GTA series on the PSP. There are small issues in the game but, it is a great game if seen from the PSP perspective. The game was released by Rockstar in 2005 just after the launch of PSP. The game takes you back to 1998 and allows you to play the character of Toni Cipriani who has just returned from abroad. On his reuturn he starts working for a crime family . After that you will be taking over different gangs, managing deals and all the stuff that Criminal can do. In this game you can drive vehicles from cars, bikes, boats to airplanes. The game is actually a remake of the original GTA 3 with the addition of bikes and a few new areas. The game gives you the freedom of roaming around the open world environment at your will. In the beginning only a small area is opened but as you will progress further in the game new areas will be unlocked. In the end i would say that this game is a must for every PSP owner.

This game was released in 2002 but, you will be amazed to know that this game is still among the top 4 ps2 game on Gamespot. This game was released in October 2002 by Rock star and its ESRB rating is Mature. I have played this game not less than 5 times and I am sure that I will play it again sometimes in the future. The reason why this game is among the top 4 ps2 games is that it offers a totally unique open world, cops and robbers game play style. In this game you will take the role of Tommy Vercetti who is a gangster. Write from the beginning of the game you will be able to steal any vehicle you want. You can drive cars, bikes, boats and even airplanes. The city looks very beautiful and full of colors. There is also a day and night cycle in the game which makes the game looks more realistic. As you will progress in the game you will earn money and make new friends. There is a huge lineup of weapons in the game including M4, Ak-47, Grenades, Rocket Launcher, swords etc. At first only a few weapons are available but, as the game will progress new weapons will be unlocked. Overall it is a great game and it is recommended to everyone. I will give this game 9.5 out of 10. GTA Rules!!!

Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock is a music game that was released by Red Octane, Activision in Oct 2007 and Its ESRB rating is Teen. I bought this game a long time ago and I still love to play it as I am a huge fan of music. Guitar Hero 3 comes up with new and challenging game modes and offers an addictive gameplay and it is sure to stick with you for a long time. The major advancement of this game is its huge and spectacular songs lineup. The track list is better than any other Guitar Hero Game. There are a lot of intense and extraordinarily good tracks from original bands in this game. To keep experienced players engaged in the game, a higher difficulty mode has been introduced. Boss battles are also a good addition to the game. However, Guitar Hero 3 is not without its flaws. First of all there is no online play in Guitar Hero 3. Secondly, the expert difficulty level is harder than it should be. Overall the game is good and I will give it 7.8 out of 10.

What are you playing right now? The Designer’s Scroll talks about the backlog of cool games to play over the holiday break (if you’re in school) or just while the weather is too nasty to go out.
So where do I start?
Well, there’s Rock Paper Shotgun’s 12 games of Christmas:
- GRID
- Mass Effect
- Trials 2
- Sins of a Solar Empire
- Audiosurf
- Far Cry 2
- Spore
- You Have to Burn the Rope
- World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King
- King’s Bounty: The Legend
- Left4Dead
- World of Goo
At least for my part, I’ve played Audiosurf, Spore, and You Have to Burn the Rope to my satisfaction. Also, Left4Dead
continues to rock my world, but it tends to fall heavily under the
“socialize with friends” category, and as such doesn’t directly compete
with the other games.World of Goo I just need to put more hours into, period. I’ve loved what I’ve seen so far and simply need to commit. Why is it so hard to commit to just sitting down and having a great time with a game as purely fun as World of Goo, anyway? Vacation will fix that, I swear it.
Of that list, I play WoW pretty often, played Spore, and am planning on playing King’s Bounty. The RPS article makes me want to play World Of Goo, too!
What about you? What’s next on your gaming to-do list?

My friend Rick, of Panda Passport and Little Red Blog fame, reviewed Zenses for Nintendo DS. I love casual games and Rick is a great writer, and the combination makes Zenses Rainforest Review: Do You Want a Break From Frustrating Games? much more than the usual “This game r0x0r!!!1!1!” (or sux0rs, I guess).
Zenses Rainforest is a puzzle game. Well, more specifically it’s a group of six puzzle games. Picture Tetris in a Japanese rock garden with a waterfall, and some pot-smoking Enya fans sitting nearby. That’s kinda like Zenses.
I started playing this game after trying out Quantum of Solace for about an hour. I’m a pretty casual gamer, and maybe I just don’t have the patience required for the Jame Bond game. But in any case, 60 minutes of repeatedly trying to follow Judy Dench’s commands was enough to make me want to put my head through the wall. I quit before even finishing the training round. And that’s when I decided to give Zenses a try.
Unlike many other games that have a difficulty level setting, Zenses is a little more “Zensitive” about choosing its words. Rather than making you feel like a wuss for choosing the easy level, Zenses asks you to choose the difficulty level by sliding a selector up the intensity bar. The default is zero intensity, which is kinda like Zenses telling you “Hey man, don’t over-do it.”
Kind of makes me want to try it… when I finish playing Harvest Moon!

GTA San Andreas is one of the best games that I have played so far on my PC. I have played it many times and I am playing it write now too. GTA is one of the most successful all time famous video game series of. The owner of this series is Rockstar. This game allows you to take the role of the gangster, complete missions, hijack cars, bikes, boats, airplanes and helicopters and even trains. There are many parts of GTA released by Rockstar but, write now we are talking about GTA San Andreas. GTA SA was the third sequel since Rockstar started making GTA in full 3D environment. Now with the help of his friends Carl has to gain respect and get his gang to the top again. There are a number of missions that you have to complete in order to gain respect. I am a huge fan of the Rockstar’s GTA series and i have played almost all the game of this series. Be it GTA 3, GTA vice city or San Andreas i have played all of them. Ever since the GTA 3 came out it revolutionized the gaming world. And it changed the way the people used to think about gaming. Since then it turned into a new genre. Many other companies tried to copy the idea but non of them succeeded. There are alot of other games out there trying to copy the idea that Rockstar introduced. But, according to my opinion, non of them stands in competition with the GTA series. The GTA games allows you to take the role of a gangster and gives you the chance to experience the life of a gangster. GTA 3 allowed you to drive cars, boats and other such vehicles. With further advancements Gta vice city allowed you to drive even bikes and airplanes and helicopters. Gta San Andreas offers an even massive variety of vehicles. So far it is the best video game series that i have ever played. Write now i am playing GTA 4 and i will soon write a review of that game.

Few days ago a news came that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars , which is the upcoming DS GTA game from Rockstar’s exceptionally popular crime series, will feature a drug selling mini game where players will be able to earn money pedding six different kinds of narcotics around town. 1up.com reports that unsurprisingly, this isn’t going over very well with anti-drug organizations. According to Gamepolitics British tabloid The Sun, a member of the charity Drugsline condemns Rockstar’s use of illegal narcotics.
Darren Gold, on behalf of the Drugsline organization, said,”"Anything using drug-dealing as entertainment is sending out the wrong message.Glamorization doesn’t help our work trying to educate kids of the dangers of substance misuse.”

Pure, which is an off road game for the Xbox 360 developped by Black Rock Studio, is a game which proposes you to drive a quad. Black Rock Studio has experience in this domain so we can hope that the game will have a lot of fun. Not only the game will try to seduce the players with his arcade mode but also by the fact you can do spectacular actions with your quad.
I played the game during an exhibition and i was quite impressed. After i was able to play in the house of one of my friends and i can tell you that Pure impresses a lot. Not only for his good realisation, the driving is very impressive since it gives a very good sensation but unfortunately i will prefer a little more circuits to extend the playing.

Great news for all those Wii users out there. Did you feel yourself left behind by Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2? Well don’t worry because, Wii music is rolling into town. According to Nintendo, Wii Music is the game for those who “think learning an instrument is too difficult.” Just wave the Wii remote and the nunchunk and you have got the music. In this game you can improvise with everything from the trumpet and the saxophone to the steel drums and the sitar.

Recently the band Motley Crue accomplished an unbelievable- and herculean – feat when their latest track Saints of Los Angeles registered more downloads on Xbox Live and PSN, as a Rock Band dlc, than iTunes. The band had deliberately released the track as a Rock Band dlc after research showed that gamers made up a sizable chunk of their fans. This might just be the precursor of things to come, though all tracks might not be more popular on online game services. This also gives a dekko into the digital world of the future when storage media will be tossed out of the window and digital downloads will reign.

In a country so based on Christian beliefs and ideals, it seems these days that most people are forgetting the definition for “Scapegoat”. As defined by the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, a “Scapegoat” is:
a goat upon whose head are symbolically placed the sins of the people after which he is sent into the wilderness in the biblical ceremony for Yom Kippur
Basically the goat has all the sins of the populace placed on him, and then is sent out to die. Traditionally with rocks, sticks, and curses thrown at him to drive him on. Such things have been common in all societies, such as dragging a lonely old woman out and burning her at the stake for a witch when some of the town’s populace came down with sickness or sinful acts, whether she had any blame or not.
It does my heart proud to see these age old traditions brought forth again today with Video Games. Games in general have been blamed for years, whether it was claiming that Dungeons and Dragons (a game in which you commonly destroy evil, fight demons, and protect the innocent) was at blame for Satanic rituals and domestic abuse, or claiming that all Renaissance Fair enthusiasts are degenerate drunken rapists. History shows that Americans don’t seem to have much of a love of the imagination, even if that was what our country was founded on.
While some of these claims, sadly, can prove true, it is completely besides the point. Video Games are being blamed for the bad actions of bad people. While inspiration may come from violent video games, it’s true, can it not also come from television, books, or possibly even the newspaper itself? Violent acts are not uncommon in history, and sadly neither is attempting to pass the blame.
