Sonic the Hedgehog Episode 4

By Meg | May 20, 2010

I do a weekly trivia night with friends, and when we can’t come with the answer, we always use Sonic the Hedgehog.  Which actor won an Oscar for playing another Oscar-winning actor? Sonic the Hedgehog! Which US president had the largest shoe size? Sonic the Hedgehog! With the new Sonic 4 for Xbox and iToys, it might actually be the real answer.

SEGA® is incredibly happy at the overwhelmingly positive response to Sonic The Hedgehog™ 4 Episode I from both press and fans around the world. SEGA wants to ensure that we’re delivering the best Sonic experience possible.

With this dedication to quality and the Sonic experience in mind, SEGA has decided to extend the development of the game and will now release Sonic The Hedgehog™ 4 Episode I in the latter half of 2010. The additional time will allow the Development Team to focus on keeping the game high quality, continuing tuning and balancing of levels and interface and overall maintaining the kind of polish that an important game like this demands, ultimately providing fans with an unrivaled classic Sonic feel.

SEGA is also pleased to confirm that Sonic The Hedgehog™ 4 Episode I will be coming to the iPhone and iPod touch via Apple’s iTunes App Store.

Sonic The Hedgehog™ 4 Episode I is developed specifically for the download market and will be available via Microsoft Xbox LIVE Arcade, Sony PlayStation Network, Nintendo WiiWare and the iTunes App Store in late 2010.

E3 Rumor: Will Sony launch a new premium service for PSN?

By Meg | May 19, 2010

Will Sony be launching a new premium service for PSN? I can’t find anything to confirm this from Sony, but it seems like every gaming site or mag has heard this rumor.

VG247 has learnt that Sony is to reveal plans for PSN’s premium services at E3.

According to a highly-placed source, Sony will announce a large-scale monetizing scheme for PSN at the LA show, but we’re assured nothing planned will impact the service’s current free aspects.

A string of features will be revealed, apparently costing “less than £50 per year”.

Sony will confirm plans to give all subscribers one free PSN game per month, from a choice of “two to four” every month.

“If you work it out, PSN games cost an average of £6-9 each, so over a year you’re basically going to be breaking even,” said our source.

Obligatory GameCrush Post

By Meg | March 29, 2010

I’m not sure if GameCrush is trying to be a gamer dating site (like SoulGeek or World of DateCraft) or a way for awkward gamer guys to pay girls to play games with them, and I’m not going to find out because the site’s down due to an overabundance of sign-ups. No word on whether those would-be beta GameCrushers are lonely guys or broke girls.

Here’s the press release:

SAN FRANCISCO – March 23, 2010 GameCrush, now available in public beta, introduces an entirely new interactive social gaming experience allowing gamers to meet, match and pay to play online games with other users (PlayDates). GameCrush is the only online service that allows gamers to choose a companion to spice up their favorite online games. Both Players and PlayDates define the experience they want- either “flirty” or “dirty”, choosing from some of the most popular console titles and casual web-based games. To register for free, visit www.gamecrush.com.

On GameCrush, players can find their perfect PlayDate through browsing their profiles and chatting live with them. Players can then purchase a live one-on-one private gaming session, complete with two-way video and text chat.

Designed to appeal to female and male gamers alike, GameCrush offers games to suit a variety of tastes, from casual web-based games to the hottest console titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3, Gears of War 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV. Initially games are available on GameCrush’s own exclusive video-enabled gaming platform and on Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE network. In addition, GameCrush will soon be available for platforms such as Sony’s PlayStation 3, World of Warcraft, and other online gaming environments.

GameCrush delivers comprehensive social tools that allow PlayDates to post profiles complete with picture galleries, video clips, blogs and text chat.  PlayDates can make up to $30 or more per hour while having fun playing online games.  After a game session is completed, Players rate their gaming experience, and top-rated PlayDates are rewarded with enhanced site promotion and additional benefits.

Gran Turismo 4

By sheikh chandio | January 9, 2009

I love to play car racing video games as much as I like racing in real times. Some of my favorites racing franchises are Need for Speed, Project Gotham Racing, Burnout, Test Drive, Moto GP etc. One of my favorite car racing game franchise on the Playstation platform is Gran Turismo. In this post I will review Gran Turismo 4. Gran Turismo 4 is the latest in the series. It was released by Sony American in-house game development studio and polyphony digital in 2005.Gran Turismo 4 is a GT Street racing game and its ESRB rating is Everyone. It is one of the best driving games on the PS2. There are alot of different cars and types of races to choose from. It also features some of the best graphics that i have ever seen on the PS2. This game is sure to provide you entertainment for months. However, the AI is not very clever and it is not very difficult to leave them behind. Overall, it is a superb game. If you are looking for a racing game then go for this one.

God of War (original) Review

By babar ali | January 6, 2009

A few days ago i review God of War 2. Now i am going to review the original God of War which gave birth to the God of War series. God of War is a fantasy action adventure game which was released by Sony’s American in-house game development studio in 2005 and its ESRB rating is Mature. God of War is one of the best games that the video game industry has ever seen and if you miss this game you are going to regret it for your life. The combat system in the game is very impressive and intense. In the beginning you only have one weapon which is a sword attached to a steel chain which is helpful for attacking enemies from a distance. The main character looks great and it matches and blends with the story. There are alot of great characters in the game. The story of the game is great with alot of twists and turns. Overall it is a great game and you anyone having a ps2 shouldn’t miss this game. I will give it 9.5 out of 10.

WSJ On Games Sales Trends

By Meg | January 2, 2009

Gamertell talks about the WSJ’s predictions for console sales. I know this Christmas has been light for all of us, so what do you think the effects will be in the gaming world?

Citing a subpar holiday season and Sony’s Playstation 3 still being the most expensive console, an article in the Wall Street Journal this
week indicates there is almost no way the PS3 can catch the Xbox 360 or
Nintendo Wii in sales. In early results, November 2008 sales of
Sony’s controversial console were down 19 percent from the same
period in 2007.

Gears Of War 2 Topping The Charts

By Meg | December 26, 2008

I saw this today on Gears of War 2 Tops Sales Chart on PlayGirlz:

Nintendo might be sitting pretty at the top in the console wars, but when it comes to software, Microsoft’s got the lead. The economic crisis seems to be hitting everyone but the world of video games. Anxious shoppers tossed games into their carts like they were Halloween candy. And the results are in.

*
Gears of War 2 (Epic, Xbox 360) – 1.56 million units
*
Call of Duty: World at War (Treyarch, Xbox 360) – 1.41 million units
*
Wii Play (Nintendo, Wii) – 796,000 units
*
Wii Fit (Nintendo, Wii) – 697,000 units
*
Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo, Wii) – 637,000 units
*
Call of Duty: World at War (Treyarch, PS3) – 597,000 units
*
Guitar Hero World Tour (Vicarious Visions, Wii) – 475,000 units
*
Left 4 Dead (Valve, Xbox 360) – 410,000 units
*
Resistance 2 (Insomniac, PS3) – 385,000 units
*
Wii Music (Nintendo, Wii) – 297,000 units

The Xbox 360 managed to get 3 out of the 10 spots, including the number 1 and 2 positions, thanks to Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty. But Nintendo dominated in numbers once again, picking up half the slots. And that leaves only 2 slots for the PS3, with Call of Duty and Resistance 2. Alas, Resistance 2 was the only PS3 exclusive to make it on the list. Sorry, Sony.

I was pleased about this because someone who lives in my house works for Epic on GoW2 so it’s nice to see his work rewarded.

SONY PSP GRAPHICS

By rhiozeel pomer | December 1, 2008

First I was scouting to buy a mobile game. Being a video fan since I was young I’m very picky in my console and games. I own a Super Nintendo, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation1, Playstation 2 and Xbox 360. Now I’m scouting for a mobile game. Of course I wasn’t expecting mobile games to have great graphics like xbox 360 or PS3. So I choose between Nintendo DS and PSP. Finally, I choose PSP, because of the god of war game series. I have just finish god of war 1 and 2, chain of olympus is only available in PSP. I was surprise the PSP has a good graphics. It is an equal I think to PS2. To think of it’s little screen and very little packaging could produce a graphics equal to a regular console. I never regretted it one bit. I’ve been playing it a lot. My plan was only to play when I’m not at home, like when where on the road with my parents or just outside being bored. But now I’ve been playing it more than I’m playing my other consoles. For one, it’s more lighter to our electricity bill, against a regular console like PS3 hookup with a 40″ plasma tv. It is really a bargain.

Home for PS3

By t_robfr | October 16, 2008

Home is the name of the new game from Sony for his PS3. In fact it is not really a game but more a social and interactive application en 3D where you will have to create a character in this virtual reality world and make him live like a normal person (go to work, clubbing, eat, meet people…)
From feedbacks of some players who had the opportunity to play in the demo version during the TGS 2008, they said that the graphic is very powerful and the system created a very fluid and impressive world !!!
Sony created a stand but within the Home world and the virtuality seems so real that we can think we are in the reality, a good way to prove the capacity of this application and may be in the future, every events will be built on this way, who knows !!!

Little Big Planet ON PSP?

By babar ali | October 1, 2008

I am sure that you all have heard about Little Big Planet. Little Big Planet is one of the best PS3 exclusive games i have seen so far. In this game one can create a whole world by yourself in this game including the backgrounds, trees, obstacles and everything that one can imagine. This game has changed the way people used to look at games. And now Media Molecule is planning to bring LBP to PSP. The news are not confirmed but it is said that they are planning to bring out a PSP version. Rumors are that they will allow PSP users to import there own music in the game. If it comes out on PSP, i think it will help Sony to get ahead from its rival Nintendo DS.

PlayStation Video Store Hampered by DRM

By john terry | September 23, 2008

Ars Technica have talked to sony about Sony’s recently launched downloadable video store for the PS3, and they think that digital rights management has the potential to cripple the service.
At this year’s E3 Sony announced the the PlayStation video store which seemed to be a perfect counter Microsoft’s lucrative video marketplace, since it allowed the buyers to own the movies that they downloaded, rather than simply renting them. However, according to Sony’s DRM policies, that ownership only applies on a single PS3 or PSP system, and the films after purchase cannot be redownloaded without contacting the customer. Lincoln Davis, PlayStation Network media relations manager, told Ars Technica, “Consumer service can issue a redownload as a one-time courtesy, as provided by our guidelines, for the title to allow the consumer to go back and download the movie from their PSN download list.”
Though the restricting downloads sounds reasonable, the problem lies in the single download limit, which turns the ownership into an exteded rental.

My Sony PSP

By Ronalyn Edillor | June 25, 2008

The Sony PSP has been released in the market for quite a while but in my case, we just bought ours last April. It’s slim and black in color. I was against at buying it at first but when I learned to use it, I got hooked.

I prefer just simple games like Virtua Tennis 3, NBA, Sims Castaway, and Luxor. There were other games installed too like Outrun, NFS, and Smackdown 2008. I play these too but on a regular basis. I’m still learning the ropes of these games.

Whenever I have free time, you will catch me playing with max volume on. I can play for hours and hours until my thumb hurts and that’s the cue for me to rest for a little bit and then resume playing again.

But now since I got busy with work, I don’t get to play often anymore but I just play songs from the PSP. That’s one feature I liked that I get to put my favorite songs to play when I’m relaxing. It’s also great that I can save pics of my family too.

I don’t regret buying the PSP and we will surely take care of it so that our son can enjoy playing it too in the near future.

Does the rise of casual gaming spell disaster for the young, male demographic?

By Meg | November 13, 2007

GameIndustry.Biz has an awesome article about the rise of casual gaming and casual gamers, and what that does for the gaming demographic. It’s no secret that there are more and more casual games (think Wii party, etc.) and more and more gamers who aren’t young men.

Suddenly, games software and hardware is attracting audiences wider than many commentators dared to hope for. Nintendo is selling console and handheld hardware to them; Sony is selling them software to run on the household gamer’s existing consoles; a number of smaller firms are stealing away their lunch hours and coffee breaks with advertising supported web games.
Whatever it does for the actual demographic, I hope it changes the stereotype of gamer away from “unshowered teenage boy”.

The Evolution of the Video Game Console 1972-Present

By Marsha James | June 13, 2006

When video games first premiered they were played primarily by the younger generation. As the gaming systems evolve adults can and will hog their kids games and many childless adults buy the systems for themselves. Along with lots of games.
The video game creators took notice and have brought out many games that are rated R or M, which means you need to be 17 or older to purchase these type of games. However with the internet and auction sites like Ebay, kids still get these games into their hands.
Below is the list of gaming systems starting with the first console Magnavox Odyssey down the most recent, which many people are actually waiting for and that is Playstation 3. Click on the pictures to see a larger image. Or click on the words to find out more about the gaming systems themselves. You can also click on the Generation titles.
1983 seems to be the saddest time for gamers because that is when the video game crash happened. Major players for the second generation gaming machines went bankrupt and it wasn’t until 1984 that new games and systems were available once again.
Many attributed the crash to the fact that these system cost roughly the same as another almost new electronic and that is the desktop pc. Computer companies were competing and win with major advertising campaigns. Some of the campaigns would ask the parents if they would rather spend money on a game which distracts from their child’s education, or spend it on a computer which can help get your young into college. I can see why parents chose computers.
As I look back at what were once expensive video game consoles I have to wonder if some of them really were. The ones that flopped big, looked awful even for the 80′s, but I guess we needed them to get to where we are now in gaming.

PS3 Might Be Too Costly For Europeans

By Marsha James | April 10, 2006

PlayStation 3 (PS3) isn’t even here yet and won’t be until November 2006 (maybe) but it already looks like the days of owning more than one gaming console is coming to an end. George Fornay, president of Sony Computer Entertainment France and vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will be priced between €499 and €599.

Via GameTab

Strict currency translation suggests that American pricing may be in the range of US $605 to $726, but currency exchange alone can’t tell the story. Case in point: the Xbox 360. In the United States, the Xbox 360 retails for $399, which is only €320 in exchange. Yet the Xbox 360 is priced at €399 throughout most of Europe.

If the PlayStation 3 follows the Xbox 360, the console may arrive in North America for US $499 to $599. This would easily make the PS3 the most expensive console on the market, with Microsoft’s two next-gen systems coming in at $399 and $299. To round out the scene, recall that Nintendo is looking to launch the Revolution for less than $300.

PS3 Release Delayed

By Sarah White | March 15, 2006

Sony has announced that the new Playstation 3 game console will not be released in Japan until November. The news was expected by still caused Sony stock to drop 1.8 percent on the day.

The machine was supposed to be on the street this spring. Still, Sony says it will produce 1 million consoles a month and have 6 million available by next March.

The console with have a 60 GB hard drive that will support Linux out of the box. It will be completely backward compatible with PS1 and 2 and will upscale old games into high definition.

The whole system is supported by Blu-ray anti-piracy technology, which is where the hangup is coming from that’s causing the delay in release.

Will the wait hurt Sony, which desperately needs a new hit? It will have been more than a year since the new X-Box came out, so one can only guess what the repercussions will be.
